Who?

Jackie Ryan is a multi-award-winning Australian artist with an abiding interest in culture that connects her work across forms and genres, from non-fiction writing to live performance and visual design.

 

She holds a PhD in History and Political Science from The University of Queensland.

She authored 'We'll Show the World: Expo 88' (UQP)

... published by University of Queensland Press. It won two 2018 Queensland Literary Awards (the Queensland Premier's Award for a Work of State Significance and the USQ History Book Award) and was shortlisted for a third ('The Courier-Mail' People's Choice Queensland Book of the Year Award).

She writes, produces, directs, photographs, designs and publishes 'Burger Force'

... the Aurealis and Bronze Ledger Award-Winning comic book series about a pop culture detective agency. 'Burger Force' has also been shortlisted for a Ledger Award for Excellence in Australian Comics (twice) and for the Russell Prize in Humour Writing.

And?

She is the founding editor of the fanciful fiction auxiliary (ffa)

... a comedy writing collective of emerging and established writers who invent and inhabit over-the-top personas to write and perform pieces so bad they're good. The FFA has sold out shows at Brisbane Powerhouse and Metro Arts and has confounded audiences at Woodford Folk Festival, Brisbane Writers' Festival and the Women of the World Festival (as part of the 2018 Commonwealth Games). The website has been archived by the National Library of Australia as a site of cultural significance.

And?

She makes visual art

... she designed the original logo for the Queensland Literary Awards, has been the subject of two solo exhibitions at Brisbane Powerhouse and one at Redlands Art Gallery, and has completed two Vibrant Laneways design commissions for the Brisbane City Council. Her work is held in both public and private collections.

And?

She occasionally makes indie films and music videos

... several of which won or skirted around the edges of various prizes, including being a finalist at the Queensland New Filmmakers Awards (twice) and the Australian Independent Music Video Awards, and winning a b(if)tek WINK award.
